Supermicro Releases High-Availability Storage Server Chassis Line
3U Chassis Feature 100% Airflow Redundancy and Support Next-Generation CPUs
SAN JOSE, CA (March 16, 2004) Super Micro Computer, Inc. announces a new line of 3U chassis units for high-availability storage servers. The Supermicro SC833/933 chassis are equipped with a revolutionary new air-flow design that provides 100% redundancy, and hot-swappable heavy-duty fans from Sanyo Denki. The chassis provides a state-of-the art solution for network-attached storage (NAS), storage area networks (SAN), and enterprise servers.
Its impressive features include a 760W triple-redundant power supply and temperature-sensitive fans that offer reduced noise levels and optimized system efficiency. The massive SC933 storage unit is capable of managing up to 15 hard drives with is up to 3.75TB. Supermicro will introduce these new chassis units March 18-24 at CeBIT 2004 in Hannover, Germany.
Supermicro's 3U platform delivers a high-availability server and mass storage solution in a scale-up strategy with pay-as-you-grow flexibility. Advancements in the SC833/933 include folded sheet metal edges for ease of handling, an easy-install rail design, support for up to six full-sized PCI expansion cards, and full optimization for the next-generation Intel processors, including Xeon, EMT, and Itanium 2.
The six high-quality Sanyo Denki cooling fans possess the highest performance specs available and exceptional durability, ensuring a continual strong flow of cooling air through the chassis. In addition, Supermicro engineers have implemented a unique, customizable air-shroud to optimize cooling redundancy. If any fan fails, the system can still perform at 100% speed. Normally the fans run at 70% capacity. If one of the fans fails, the others speed up to 100% capacity to compensate.
"These are our top-of-the-line chassis," said Charles Liang, President and CEO of Super Micro Computer, Inc. "If any of the fans fail, the others automatically take over and provide effective cooling so the CPU does not slow down or get overheat. The Supermicro SC833/933 chassis offer plenty of storage capacity, scalability, and peace of mind."
The chassis comes in four models with different drive bays, power supplies, and peripheral connection configurations in either black or beige. The chassis measure a space-efficient 17.1" width x 5.1" height x 25.5" depth and weigh between 69 and 72 pounds.
