Supermicro Unveils Seven Next Generation Dual Xeon® Servers Featuring Advanced Technology
cro Server Solutions Incorporating Ultra320 SCSI, dual Gigabit LAN, 16 GB SDRAM and IPMI 1.5 Now in Production Volume
SAN JOSE, CA. September 11, 2002 – Super Micro Computer, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of server
solutions and motherboards, today announced the high volume production
of their second generation of Intel® Xeon™ processor-based server
solutions, which feature the newest technological advancements in
communications, storage and system management. Early this year,
Supermicro became one of the first manufacturers to deliver Intel
Xeon processor-based server solutions to the market in production
volume. Building upon the success of their initial line of server
solutions, these latest additions are the first to bring Ultra320,
dual G-bit LAN, 16 GB SDRAM and IPMI 1.5 support to the market.
“Supermicro strives to be the first to optimize new technologies
and deliver them to the marketplace in an effort to provide our
customers with every competitive edge possible,” said Charles Liang,
CEO and founder of Supermicro. “Our new generation of dual Xeon
server solutions are unmatched in terms of SCSI and communications
throughput, SDRAM capacity, server manageability, price to performance
ratio and high-availability requirements.”
“Supermicro’s efforts have helped enable our Xeon processor family
server technology worldwide,” noted Lisa Hambrick, director, Intel
Enterprise Processor Marketing. “Their quick implementation and
robust designs helped create a smooth transition from Pentium III
processors to the Xeon processor family in the market.”
The new line of Intel Xeon processor-based server solutions includes nine new serverboards and seven new servers. The P4DP8-G2, P4DPE-G2, P4DPI-G2, P4DPL-8GM, P4DPL-iGM, P4DPL-M, X5DEE, X5DEI and X5DE8 serverboards and the SS7042P-8R, SS6022P-I, SS6022P-8R, SS6022P-8, SS6022L-8R, SS6012P-I and SS6012P-8 servers all support dual Xeon processors up to 2.8GHz, providing exceptional performance for the most processing-intensive applications. Several support Ultra320 SCSI, dual Gb LAN ports and IPMI 1.5 (details below). IPMI 1.5 includes powerful server management functions while decreasing the total cost of ownership (TCO) with such features as remote system shutdown, restart, system upgrading, system status monitoring and asset tracking.
