First Solano Motherboard Released by Supermicro

San Jose, CA, June 19, 2000 - Super Micro Computer, Inc., has just released their first motherboard based on the new 815 “Solano” chipset. The 370SSM microATX motherboard supports single Celeron PPGA and FCPGA 370-pin processors. It is the most economical 815 solution of those to be produced by the company.

Supermicro’s 370SSM has three DIMM slots to support up to 512 MB SDRAM and includes two 32-bit PCI slots, an AGP slot, and an AMR (Audio Modem Riser) slot. It also supports 133/100/66 MHz front side bus speeds, 4xAGP and a 133 MHz memory bus to fully support PC133 memory. AC’97 is included for integrated, onboard sound and video. The 370SSM will support single FCPGA processors at 500-933 MHz or single PPGA processors at 333-500 MHz and is the ideal solution for the next generation of entry-level desktop PCs.

Supermicro plans to follow the 370SSM with two additional motherboards based on the 815e chipset: the 370SSA and 370SSR. These two motherboards have the same front side bus speeds and processor support as the 370SSM, but are based on a more powerful chipset. Incorporating ICH2 (I/O Controller Hub) technology, the 370SSA and 370SSR support six-channel audio, two USB controllers for four USB ports and ATA100 for the highest IDE data transfer rates available. ICH2 also compresses audio signals into digital information, which eliminates certain onboard components to reduce overall costs. Furthermore, both motherboards are equipped with an onboard CNR (Communication Network Riser card), which maximizes Ethernet and modem performance. The 370SSA and 370SSR feature 6 PCI slots and 4 USB ports to offer greater capacity and excellent flexibility.

Slightly more advances than the 370SSA is the 370SSR. In addition to all the functions provided by the 370SSA, the 370SSR also supports a system management controller. With this onboard controller, the 370SSR not only constantly monitors processor temperature, cooling fan speeds and overheat conditions, but can also place an emergency call to the user's pager or mobile phone. Furthermore, the system management controller provides inter-chassis connections that enable communication between users in a clustering system. Designed for use in a cluster server, the 370SSR is equipped with three 25° DIMM modules, which allow for optimal airflow in the tight confines of a rackmount system. From the 370SSR, Supermicro is a step forward in providing a complete cluster server solution to the market.
