Supermicro Introduces High-End Quad Server to the Market

SAN JOSE, CA, March 1, 2000 – Supermicro, now an Internet server solutions provider, today announced the release of their high-end quad Pentium III Xeon server. Featuring 16 GB SDRAM and Ultra160 SCSI support, the SuperServer 8050 quad system is technologically superior to all other quad server solutions currently on the market. This new generation of server provides the performance and speed demanded by today’s e-business world and offers the unbeatable combination of advanced technology and pricing that is comparable with other quad servers, which are now becoming obsolete.

The Super Server 8050 is the fastest quad Pentium III Xeon server system on the market today with 16 GB SDRAM system memory, a 931 MB/sec PCI I/O bandwidth and Ultra160 SCSI support. This truly state-of-the-art server solution combines Supermicro’s quad processor S2QR6 motherboard and their SC850 server chassis. Supermicro's most ambitious motherboard to date, the S2QR6 is based on the Reliance HE Classic chipset, which is recognized as the best quad chipset in the world and made available to only a few select companies. The S2QR6 supports up to four PentiumTM III XeonTM 550 MHz processors, as well as the next generation of higher speed “Cascade” processors. A total of eight PCI slots are provided, including two 64-bit 66 MHz, four 64-bit 33 MHz and two 32-bit slots. A Memory Expansion Card is included with the motherboard and can support up to a full 16 GB of SDRAM. The S2QR6 is also equipped with Adaptec's AIC-7899 SCSI controller chip for dual channel Ultra160 SCSI. By providing throughput speeds of up to 160 MB/sec for each channel, Ultra160 SCSI is the fastest, most reliable SCSI technology available and a must for high-end server applications.

The SC850 server chassis houses 10 Ultra160 hot-swap SCSI hard drives on two SCA backplanes to provide up to 730 GB of storage. Software or hardware RAID support safeguards against the loss of drive data. A triple redundant 700 watt power supply and eight redundant system cooling fans are all hot-swap components to virtually eliminate system downtime. Five floppy/hard disk drive bays and nine mainboard expansion slots allow you to fully upgrade the system to suit your needs. The chassis also features a detailed front control panel that puts full system monitoring and control at your fingertips. Expertly designed with only the best of today’s high-end technology, the SuperServer 8050 provides performance, reliability and affordability unmatched by any other quad server now on the market.
