Supermicro Introduces Super P6DNH2 With i960® RD I/O Processor For Higher I/O Throughput and For Enhanced Server Performance

San Jose, Calif. (March 3, 1997) - SUPERMICRO Computer today announced the availability of another I2OTM -ready, dual Pentium Pro motherboard with a clock-doubled i96O RD I/O processor. The new product, SUPER P6DNH2, promises to deliver double the performance of existing I/O processors. This can result in improved network system performance and better interoperability in an enterprise computing environment. SUPERMICRO was the first motherboard manufacturer to incorporate the 33MHz i960 RP IOP onto the world’s first I2O-ready motherboard, SUPER P6DNH.

According to Charles Liang, President and CEO of SUPERMICRO, "The increased processing capability of the 66MHz i960 RD IOP will eliminate system I/O bottlenecks and deliver more scalability and lower utilization for the host processor. Furthermore, only a single robust driver interface is required for adapter cards. IT managers can expect to have better system manageability because resources are being shifted away from driver development."

"Users may benefit dramatically from the incorporation of Intel’s high performance i960 RD I/O processor into SUPERMICRO’s most recent server motherboard, the SUPER P6DNH2. In addition to enhanced system throughput and easier implementation of storage, a variety of application specific capabilities directly in the system may be a benefit to users," quoted Alan Steinberg, General Manager of Intel Enterprise Computing I/O Operation.

SUPER P6DNH2 is a full-AT size (13"x12") high-end server motherboard based on Intel’s 440 FX chipset. It supports dual Pentium Pro processors, i960 RD IOP, up to 1GB FPM or EDO memory, 8 PCI and 3 ISA slots, an 8Mb Flash I/O BIOS, local IOP memory of 64MB, and system overheat temperature control. On-board I/O includes 2 EIDE, 1 floppy, 2 serial, 1 ECP/EPP parallel, 2 USB and a PS/2 mouse port.
